Third-party research confirms that the ENGAGE program drives results. Last year’s pilot program seniors graduated at higher rates than the statewide average overall, as well as across every Yazzie/Martinez subgroup, including economically disadvantaged, English language learners, Native American, and Special Education.

ENGAGE New Mexico is a partnership between the New Mexico Public Education Department and Graduation Alliance, an education services organization that has served hundreds of thousands of students in similar programs across the country. Here’s how it works:

  1. Participating districts refer eligible seniors to ENGAGE.

  2. Referred students will be assigned a Success Coach who will meet with them in person and online, and, at the option of the district, 24/7 virtual tutoring services.

  3. Students will complete a capstone experience focused on college and career planning.

I’ve had the privilege of watching ENGAGE New Mexico make a powerful impact in such a short period of time. Their ability to connect with our seniors—many of whom have faced challenges with engagement and attendance—was incredible. The Success Coach met students where they were, offered meaningful guidance, and helped reignite a sense of purpose and direction in their academic plans. They also worked collaboratively with staff to ensure the program’s support aligned with our ongoing efforts. I would absolutely love to see this program return at the start of the school year, when early intervention is so critical.”
